Telkomsel trials Long Term Evolution (LTE)

High speed capability which can be utilized by Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology drives many mobile broadband providers to make a trial before they decide to implement it. Telkomsel is one of mobile broadband provider in Indonesia than plan to trial LTE technology. Telkomsel is one of the mobile providers in Indonesia that running 3G service for now. The trial is intended to give new experience for their mobile broadband subscribers to have high speed interne access up to 100 Mbps for downloading and 50 Mbps uploading

Telkomsel has prepared some LTE ‘s network infrastructures to support LTE trial such as:

1. E-Node B

Evolved Node B  is a BTS for LTE technology

2. Mobility Management Entity (MME)

MME will manage and store user equipment (UE) and generates temporary identities and allocate them to UE

3. System Architecture Evolution Gateway (SAE-GW),

SAE-GW is for receiving Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) service data and MBMS control signaling or service data from another network, and forwarding the received service data and control signaling

4. IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)

IMS is a generic architecture for offering multimedia and voice over IP services, defined by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)

The high speed capability which can be achieved by LTE technology, requiring high resource to implement is such as bandwidth capacity, radio capacity resource and dedicated frequency. Telkomsel has prepared all of them and predicted will launch the trial before end of first semester of 2010. Telkomsel also optimizes the current resource to optimize the trial and to support the mobile broadband service in the future

With high speed internet access up to 100 Mbps, LTE technology can be utilized for many purpose such as high definition of streaming video, voice over IP (VOIP) and others application which required high speed data rate such as mobile TV, video conference etc
