Accounting process on mobile broadband service

Accounting function

Mobile broadband service will require accounting process to charge mobile broadband subscriber while they access high speed internet access. Accounting process responsible to deduct subscriber balance for the prepaid phone number and record the transaction on the Call Detail Record (CDR) for the postpaid phone number. Accounting process could be done by Authentication, Accounting and Authorization (AAA) server or dedicated charging system. Accounting process on mobile broadband service either on EVDO, 3G or WIMAX involves several partner such as

The Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) servers

The two terms of wireless or mobile internet services related to how subscriber will be permitted to access internet and how they will be charged are Authentication and Accounting functions. One more function that still important is Authorization process but at this time I will leave the last function. We can say that Public Data Serving Node (PDSN) does not do the entire of data processing but it will send requests to another network element. The functions related to the Authentication, Authorization and Accounting, PDSN will send requests to the

PDSN: The Central processing of Data Service

When subscriber makes a dial session to have data service (wireless or mobile broadband internet service) on the CDMA platform, the first stage it will go through the telecommunication system such as BTS, BSC and MSC. Mobile Switching (MSC) will indicate that it is a data service session than MSC will forward the request to the Public Data Serving Node (PDSN). PDSN is the central processing of data service on the CDMA platform. In term of voice session it has the same function as MSC meanwhile SMS service, it is like Short Messaging Service Centre (SMSC).

Charging mechanism of wireless internet services

It is different with fixed line internet access e.g. via Internet Service Provider (ISP) which has dedicated bandwidth allocation, wireless or mobile broadband internet service has various charging mechanisms. This is to anticipate unstable connection which used to happen to wireless internet service. It is fairer that when subscriber is getting slow speed during accessing to internet, Telecommunication Company should charge them cheaper. As you know that many factors influence the speed of wireless or mobile broadband internet service but the most contribution is RF capacity issue.
Usually telecommunication company is giving two basic charging mechanisms, those are;

Optimizing Wireless and Broadband Internet Services

CDMA 1x 2000, GPRS, 3G or EVDO is wireless or mobile broadband internet service connection which has unstable connection. They will have different speed all the long time while you are trying to access. Sometimes you got a high speed connection and another time they will have poor connection. CDMA 1x 2000 and GPRS service are working on the same channel with voice and messaging (SMS) services. It means while the traffic of both voice and messaging are on high demand, the CDMA 1x 2000 or GPRS connection will get poor one. Giving a priority and capacity is applied to each BTS for all services which used the same RF resources. And usually Telecommunication Company is giving priority to voice and messaging services rather than data service. Both services also have
