Optical fiber and Satellite transmission

While deploying telecommunication infrastructures, the planning team will give high attention to what kind of transmission system they will use to deliver the packet or traffic from source address to destination. The backbone transmission which carryout the huge traffic from the core network of telecommunication companies to the branch office or three parties offices e.g. international internet gateway, telecommunication partners etc usually will be planned to have high scalability to anticipate increasing huge traffic in the future.

Optical fiber and Satellite transmissions are the most transmission media which used to use by telecommunication companies to carry huge traffic from backbone network. With high capacity they can cater, optical fiber and satellite transmission will be the first option while telecommunication planning team decides to deploy telecommunication infrastructure.

There are many network elements which can split high transmission capacity of optical fiber into many small capacities e.g. E1 capacity (2 Mbps) and per time slot (64 kbps). Telecommunication manufacture (vendor) deploys such network element such as Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) to fulfill requirement from telecommunication companies which could manage the backbone traffic up to several Giga bytes. Telecommunication manufactures which already have deployed the SDH system and has been deployed on the wide market are Alcatel, Siemens, Nokia, Ericsson and NEC. They are produce high capability network element which connect to directly to optical fiber

Satellite transmission in alternative solution once telecommunication companies can not provided optical fiber for the backbone transmission or there is no E1 transmission via radio microwave to carry out low and middle traffic. Satellite transmission is high costly transmission media which will be the final second choice while optical fiber to carry out the huge backbone traffic is unavailable. Since the high cost to deploy satellite transmission, there will be a few of network provider which provide satellite transmission lease line.
