Virgin Media 50Mb package averages 47.7Mb in November
Broadbandchoices.co.uk on the news page report that customers signed up to the Virgin Media XXL broadband packages averaged an impressive 47.7 Mb on the November. Virgin Media confirmed that this packages average was occurring during on November. Virgin Media also reported that the typical speeds for customers on its XL 20Mb broadband package and its X Broadband package, which offers speeds of up to 10Mb. Broadbandchoices.co.uk reports that the majority of its 20Mb customers enjoyed speeds of 18.6Mb, while those on the 10Mb package received an average of 9.6Mb, according to the Virgin Media on the statement below.
“At Virgin Media we believe that being honest about broadband speeds is important,” said the provider. “That’s why we’re going to publish the typical speeds the majority of our customers actually get each month.”
Virgin Media broadband conducted its own speed test over a 24-hour period using a “broadband measurement panel” of Virgin Media customers from across its network.
However, the average speeds published by Virgin Media for November are higher than those measured by regulator Ofcom in its broadband speed research in July 2010. It put average speeds on the 20Mb package at 15.7Mb and said that 10Mb customers received 8.7Mb on average.
Virgin Media is one of the big broadband providers in UK that currently running an online petition, with nearly 10,000 signatures, calling on the Advertising Standards Authority “to put a stop to misleading broadband advertising once and for all”.
