Telkomsel as the biggest mobile broadband provider in Indonesia commits to keep providing the latest mobile broadband technology to their subscribers. The latest update from Telkomsel is they just tested Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Dual Carrier High Speed Packet Acces Plus (HSPA+). To make this trial, Telkomsel cooperate with several manufactures to provide network infrastructures to deploy LTE and Dual HSPA+ infrastructures such as Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia Siemen

Currently the development of mobile broadband is still at the initial stage, where the technology used is still based on 3G technology, which has evolved into the HSDPA / HSUPA and HSPA +. Technology continues to evolve into the Dual Carrier HSPA + (42Mbps), Multi-Carrier (84Mbps), and supported by Multi Carrier Multiple Input Multiple Output antennas (MIMO) 2×2 (168 Mbps).

While on the other hand new technologies such as LTE are also becoming available, where both LTE and LTE Advance offers the capacity and quality exceeding HSPA +. With LTE, accessible data services with speeds up to 172 Mbps, while LTE Advance offers speeds up to 300Mbps, 600Mbps, and even 1 Gbps technology with the Multi Carrier and 4×4 MIMO.

In this trial Telkomsel to assess the technical and business LTE technology, especially the resource requirements, such as the allocation of frequencies to deploy LTE, needs new investment for the implementation of LTE, as well as leveraging existing investments that can be utilized for the development of LTE implementation. The whole effort was undertaken to support the development of future mobile broadband services require a very large bandwidth, such as: high-speed data up to 150 Mbps (downlink) and 50 Mbps (uplink) to support high definition video streaming, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and other applications requiring high speed data.

Testing LTE technology and Dual Carrier HSPA + is a series of efforts in implementing the development of Telkomsel’s cellular technology roadmap to higher levels. Telkomsel start to launch broadband service with 3G technology in Indonesia on 14 September 2006. Furthermore, Telkomsel launched its mobile broadband services Telkomsel Flash-based technology HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) on April 6, 2007, and the project Telkomsel Flash Next Generation by implementing technology HSPA + (High Speed Packet Access Plus) at 24 broadband city in Indonesia, starting 4 November 2009
