Telecommunication companies used to deploy Voice over IP (VOIP) service to serve their own subscribers while they want to make an international call instead of using International Direct Dial (IDD) service from their competitor. It is different with IDD service, VOIP service required subscriber to dial using certainty prefix number created by its telecommunication company while they want make an international call. 1. Voice over IP (VOIP) gateway

Voice over IP (VOIP) gateway responsible to handle all international calling services were dialed by subscribers. The main function of Voice over IP (VOIP) gateways are compressing the voice, routing the call, digit number translation policy and change the packet to IP base. Voice over IP (VOIP) gateway retrieves subscriber’s call from Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) and the process the call before deliver it to the destination number. Voice over IP (VOIP) gateway will generate the call detail report (CDR) when a call is established between source number (A number) and destination number (B number)

2. Internet bandwidth

Voice over IP (VOIP) service is internet protocol (IP) bases packet which mean that call will be delivered to destination number to the IP packet. To deliver the Voice over IP (VOIP) service, telecommunication companies require international internet bandwidth where the calls will come and go. Telecommunication companies used to already have international internet bandwidth either they leased from Internet Service Provider (ISP) or they build by their selves for many purpose. It means that no issue on the international internet bandwidth while telecommunication companies plan to have international internet bandiwdht

3. International Voice over IP (VOIP) partner

Telecommunication companies than need international Voice over IP (VOIP) partner that responsible to the end of destination number. More often, international Voice over IP (VOIP) partner will have another Voice over IP (VOIP) partner as well to deliver the call to destination number

The benefit of Voice over IP (VOIP) service is cheap tariff rather than IDD service. Voice over IP (VOIP) service is quite easy to be deployed rather than IDD service which require dedicated international link gateway with high capacity. Voice over IP (VOIP) service also need less investment rather than IDD service.
